Nondeterministic functions

Nondeterministic functions may return different results each time they’re called with a specific set of input values even if the database state that they access remains the same ex GROUP BY, DATE. That means that if functions like these are run, there is no guarantee that the same order will be returned. Functions such as the ORDER BY are used to explicity state the order of the returned values.
